Prac and pith helmets

Prac highlights:

Having kids listen to me when I ask them to do stuff! (Trust me, it's an accomplishment)
Outsmarting a kid who thought he'd make me go to pieces when he stole the lesson plan
Friendly teachers
Opportunities to observe senior drama and music while doing my assessment with junior drama classes

Lowlights:
Mostly related to behaviour management issues

And now I bet you're wondering about the pith helmet.
For Kids Klub at church this year (has it come around again?!) it's a jungle theme.
The other night my sister was talking about safari suits. She said, "I want a pith helmet." (For those of you who don't know, they're those weird hats you wear with the safari suit).
I turned to her in shock. "You watch your language!" I said.

:-p

So now the pith helmet is the running joke. We're planning an ad for Kids Klub at church. Tiph is planning to be a character with a lisp - "Hello everyone, I jutht can't wait for Kidth Klub thith year, we're going to the jungle, and I'm going to wear my thafari thuit and my pith helmet."
Alternatively, she would come on wearing one and I would grab it off her head.
"Are you taking the pith?"

But we thought that might not go down too well ;-)

    Haha.

As a kid, I used to be a member of Kings Club, which had an annual week long er... festival? about the Son. One year, it was called Sonseeker Safari. Each year they had a different cool song.

Come on along on a Son-Seeker Safari!
Come on along and safari with me!
    (something) never ending,
    Adventure’s just begun.
    (something something something)
    We’re gonna have some fun!

I just asked a friend on MSN if he could remember the words. We invited him to it right after we met 14 years ago, and he loved the song more than anyone who went, but he can't remember a word.
I almost sang it to him just then to make him remember the tune, but his version of MSN doesn't spport it fortunately for him.

    Word verification: eatlgnz
    Eat lots of greens?
    The letters were green too.

I think we miss the oppportunity to take the pith at church far too often. While we must be reverent, we also take worship (and ourselves) WAY too seriously sometimes...

people are far too serious in church. we should be able to laugh at ourselves. if you think you can get away with it in your church then do it.

"Getting away" with laughing at ourselves at church is something that is near impossible - you either have a church that embraces the silliness that is the human race and cherishes it, or not... most not...

I don't think our church does to badly. They know how to take a reasonable amount of humour. However, there is a line, and we can get close, but we shouldn't cross it. Not all humour is appropriate in the church. Not all humour is appropriate full stop. But the pith helmet is okay. We're walking the line, not crossing it.

So that's what you were talking about!
    That was hillarius!

I especially liked: "Reality will adapt accordingly."

Thanks Beth! I know a lot of people who'll want to keep that.
I'll bet it goes over most peoples' heads, hey.
Thanks for all your help on the Da Vinci article too.

Come on along on a Son-seeker Safari!
Come seek the Son on safari with me!
    A journey never-ending,
    Adventure just begun.
A journey to know God, the Bible as our guide!

I was at a VBS as a kid (what you must be calling a longer festival), where this was the theme. I'm looking for audio of the song we sang. Haha. I remember the lyrics going like this (maybe another verse).

Come on along on a Son-Seeker Safari!
Come seek the Son on safari with me.
    (repeat)

    Travelling together,
    exploring side by side,
    looking for the lost ones,
    the Bible as our guide!

    Anyone else remember that one?

I get this song stuck in my head from time to time, decided to Google it today and found this post! I also remember it from VBS. Here's the lyrics I remember:

Come on along on a Son-seeker Safari
Come seek the Son on safari with me
Come on along on a Son-seeker Safari
Come seek the Son on safari with me

    A journey never-ending
    Adventure just begun
    We're searching always seeking
    In learning of God's son
